Update: Generac Recalls 64,000 Generators Over Burn Hazard
In September 2023, Generac issued a nationwide recall for approximately 64,000 portable generators over the potential fire and burn hazards, according to the CPSC.
The recalled generators’ fuel tanks have a valve problem that may cause them to “build up excess pressure and expel fuel when opened, posing fire and burn hazards,” the agency said.
Generac issued the recall after receiving at least 27 reports of generators overheating, including 3 severe burn injuries.
Affected generators were sold at major home improvement and hardware stores from April 2011 through June 2023 for between $3,300 and $3,650.
If you purchased a Generac generator that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and contact Generac for a free repair kit.
