Polaris Alternator Recall

Polaris is recalling certain 2022-2023 Slingshot R, Slingshot S with Technology Package 1, Slingshot SL, Slingshot SLR, and Slingshot S motorcycles over concerns that the alternator may have been improperly heat-treated during manufacturing.

Dealers will replace the alternator, free of charge.

This recall began on March 8, 2023.

Polaris’ number for this recall is T-23-01.

What’s the Problem?

Polaris motorcycles affected by the recall include:

  • 2019 Slingshot
  • 2019 Slingshot SL
  • 2019 Slingshot SLR
  • 2019 Slingshot GT

These motorcycles may contain a defective 10A circuit breaker which could trip unexpectedly, causing a sudden loss of power or engine stall, increasing the risk of crash and severe bodily injury.

If you purchased a Polaris Slingshot that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately. Polaris is notifying owners and will provide a new 10A circuit breaker with installation instructions.

Polaris Overheating Death Class Action Lawsuit

A federal judge in California has denied a request by Polaris to dismiss claims that the company manufactured defective vehicles that were prone to overheating and caused multiple injuries and at least 1 death.

Polaris argued that lead plaintiff James DiBiasio should have filed the lawsuit when he initially learned that his RZR XP 1000 sport side-by-side vehicle was defective.

For his part, DiBiasio alleges that certain Polaris off-road recreational vehicles produced between 2011 and 2018 contain a common design defect that causes their engine compartments to reach unsafe temperature levels.

Polaris recalled its model year 2013-2016 RZR 900 and RZR 1000 vehicles in April 2016 following around 160 reports of fires, resulting in a total of nearly 20 injuries and 1 death, according to the lawsuit.
