Update: Polaris Ranger, ProXD UTVs Recalled Over Crash Hazard
Polaris is recalling the following UTVs which were manufactured with a throttle pedal that can return to the idle position more slowly than anticipated once the pedal is released or stuck in the depressed position, posing a crash hazard:
- 2020-2021 Polaris RANGER 1000
- 2020-2021 Polaris RANGER CREW 1000
- 2020-2021 Polaris RANGER XP 1000
- 2020-2021 Polaris RANGER CREW XP 1000
- 2020 Polaris ProXD 2000G
- 2020 Polaris ProXD 2000G H
- 2020 Polaris ProXD 4000G
- 2020 Polaris ProXD 4000G H
“The firm has received 52 reports of throttle pedals returning to the idle position slowly or sticking, including six reports of vehicle crashes resulting in minor property damage,” CPSC said.
This recall began on March 4, 2021.
What’s the Problem?
This CPSC Recall affects the following vehicles [1]:
- 2019 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 EPS
- 2019 Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000
- 2020 Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 Deluxe
- 2020 Polaris General XP 1000 Deluxe
- 2020 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Deluxe
- 2020 Polaris General XP 1000
The recall was issued after Polaris determined that the recalled UTVs have a throttle that can fail to return to the idle position after the engine stalls and is restarted in gear without switching the key to the off position due to a software problem. This can cause the vehicle to accelerate suddenly, posing a crash hazard, CPSC said.
Affected vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from June 2018 through March 2020 for between $15,890 and $29,000. The word “POLARIS” is stamped on the front grille and “Ranger” or “General” is printed on the sides of the rear cargo area. VIN numbers are stamped into the left rear vehicle frame below the cargo box.
Consumers who purchased a recalled UTV should stop using it and contact their Polaris dealership for a free inspection and repair. The CPSC Recall Number for this item is 20-758.
