What’s the Problem?
This recall affects Otani OH-306 425/65R-22.5 commercial truck tires with DOT code 0320, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Due to a potential manufacturing defect, the tread on affected Otani tires may crack. Cracks in the tread can lead to tread separation and a sudden loss of air pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Foreign Tire is notifying owners and dealers will fully reimburse the customer for the price of the recalled tires.
This recall began in December 2020.

5 Causes of Tire Tread Separation
1. Manufacturer Defect – A manufacturer’s defect occurs when the maker of the tires made a mistake or used faulty materials when making the tires. If there is a defect in your tires, there may be a problem with the tread or the rubber may not be properly adhered to the steel of the tire. These can cause the tire to de-tread quicker than usual, which can lead to a dangerous accident.
2. Under-inflation – If your tires are not properly filled with air, a lack of inflation can lead to the tread wearing and separating faster than usual. Always check your tire pressure regularly to avoid under-inflation in your tires.
3. Incorrect Flat Tire Repair – Tire detread can also occur as a result of a previous flat tire being improperly repaired. If you have a flat tire and get the leak or hole patched rather than getting a new tire, you run the risk of the repair being done incorrectly.
4. Rough Driving – Another cause of tire detread is rough driving, such as braking excessively. While rough driving usually occurs due to driver error, sometimes a driver has to slam on their brakes in order to avoid a collision.
5. Driving Too Long on the Same Tires – Tires are not meant to last forever and should be replaced at regular intervals for the safest use. The longer you drive on the same tires, the more the tread starts to separate and wear down. This is exacerbated by high temperatures and driving at high speeds.
