What’s the Problem?
October 29, 2015 – Plaintiff Rochelle Gibson filed the lawsuit today against AstraZeneca in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of her mother, Lillie Ree Gibson. According to the complaint, Lillie began taking Onglyza (generic: saxagliptin) per her doctor’s orders in 2010, was diagnosed with heart failure in June 2011, and died from the condition on October 31, 2013.
In February 2014, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned of an increased rate of hospitalization for heart failure with Onglyza. The agency’s warning was the result of a clinical trial called the SAVOR study, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in October 2013.
Rochelle Gibson is seeking a trial jury and damages of more than $50,000 including interest, attorney fees and punitive damages. The complaint is: Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010969.
