What's the Problem?
The recalled Mitsubishi Monteros are equipped with Non-Azide Driver Airbag Inflators (NADI) which may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the airbag cushion to under-inflate, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Airbag inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, while an under-inflated defective airbag may not properly protect the occupant, NHTSA said. Both of these scenarios increase the risk of severe personal injury, including death.
Mitsubishi will contact owners of affected vehicles when a remedy is available. This recall began on March 22, 2020.
