What’s the Problem?

The recalled Mitsubishi Monteros are equipped with Non-Azide Driver Airbag Inflators (NADI) which may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the airbag cushion to under-inflate, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

An airbag inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, while an under-inflated defective airbag may not properly protect the occupant, NHTSA said. Both of these scenarios increase the risk of severe personal injury, including death.
