LUS Hair Dryer Lawsuit Overview
The LUS hair dryer lawsuits center on defective hair dryers that lack proper immersion protection devices, posing serious electrocution and shock hazards.
Primary allegations against LUS Distribution include failure to implement adequate safety features and not meeting mandatory electrical appliance safety standards.
Approximately 2,700 units were recalled due to these safety concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall alert in April 2020 citing the severe risk of electrocution if the plugged-in dryer falls into water.
Latest LUS Hair Dryer Lawsuit Updates
April 23, 2020
– LUS Distribution initiated a nationwide recall of approximately 2,700 LUS dryers and diffusers due to electrocution hazards, offering consumers either a full refund or $175 store credit as compensation.
FDA Reports and Statistics
While the LUS hair dryer is regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission rather than the FDA, there are significant statistics regarding hair dryer safety:
- The CPSC reports that hair dryers are among the top household appliances involved in electrical shock incidents
- Between 2015-2020, over 400 incidents of electric shock or electrocution from hair dryers were reported nationally
- The recall of the 2,700 LUS hair dryers was part of a regulatory action to prevent potential injuries
LUS Hair Dryer Injuries & Side Effects
The LUS hair dryers without immersion protection devices can cause several serious injuries when used improperly or when they malfunction.
- Electrical Shock: Users may experience mild to severe electrical shocks when the device comes in contact with water
- Electrocution: In severe cases, the electrical current can cause fatal injuries if the plugged-in device falls into water
- Burns: Direct contact with overheated components or electrical failures can cause significant burns
- Fire Hazards: Even when in the “off” position, plugged-in hair dryers without proper safety features can overheat and cause fires

LUS Hair Dryer Recall Information
This recall affects about 2,700 LUS dryers and diffusers, according to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) [1].
The recalled hair dryers do not have an immersion protection device, posing an electrocution or shock hazard if the dryer falls into water when plugged in, CPSC said.
Affected dryers were sold in white, and have the model number HD-LUS01 printed under the back end of the device.
The logos “LUS Brands” and “Love Ur Curls” are located on either side of the back end of the dryer. The recalled blow dryers were sold online from Nov. 2019 to Feb. 2020 for between $125 and $144.
If you purchased an LUS hair dryer that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and unplug it.
LUS Distribution is contacting all registered owners and offering either a full refund or $175 store credit. This recall began on April 23, 2020.
Hair Dryer Electrocution Risk
A hair dryer is a fire hazard whenever it is plugged in, and can also deliver a powerful electrical shock. If moisture gets into the wall socket or the internal components of the hair dryer, then the appliance can overheat, burn and start a fire or cause an electrocution.
If water is touched during a time of low-resistance connection with the ground, the hair dryer can electrocute the person using it.
Whenever there is water and splashing of water in the sink near the hair dryer, a risk of electrical shock is present.
A hair dryer that is plugged into an electrical outlet is live, even if it is in the “off” position. This means that even if a hair dryer is switched onto the “off” position, it can still electrocute you if touched under the right conditions, and start a room fire.
Statute of Limitations for LUS Hair Dryer Lawsuits
The statute of limitations for product liability cases varies by state, but typically ranges from 1-3 years from the date of injury.
Some states may also recognize a “discovery rule,” which means the timeline begins when you discovered or reasonably should have discovered that your injury was caused by the defective hair dryer.
