As in other food poisoning outbreaks, the number of cases reported to health authorities is likely just a fraction of the true number of illnesses associated with a given food product. Signs and symptoms of a salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps for 4 to 7 days, with most otherwise healthy individuals resolving without seeking medical attention.
