How Can Januvia Cause Pancreatic Cancer?
Since it first hit the market in 2006, Januvia has been increasingly linked to a number of serious side effects. Recent studies have found that patients taking Januvia to help control their diabetes may have an increased risk of developing pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. In addition to the potential risks to the pancreas, the research also identified a link between Januvia and thyroid cancer.
In response to the high number of adverse event reports submitted to the FDA linked to Januvia, the administration has advised doctors to avoid prescribing the medication to individuals who have a history of pancreas problems or thyroid cancer. Other diabetes drugs are available including metformin, insulin, Avandia and Actos, although these last two medications have been linked to heart attacks and heart failure.
