What are the Complications of Pancreatic Cancer?
Janumet pancreatic cancer complications may include:
- Jaundice – Tumors that obstruct the common bile duct may result in jaundice, a condition characterized by yellow skin and eyes, dark urine, and pale-colored stools. To treat jaundice, a stent may be placed in the bile duct to force it open. When this does not work, surgical intervention may be required to create a new path for bile to travel from the liver to the intestines.
- Pain – Cancerous tumors may grow out of control and press up against nerves in the abdomen, causing intense pain that may be treated with prescription drugs or radiation. In severe cases, alcohol may be injected into the nerves that control pain in the abdomen to stop the nerves from sending pain signals to the brain.
- Bowel obstructions – If tumor cells caused by Janumet pancreatic cancer migrate into or press against the small intestine, it can inhibit digestive processes. A stent may be inserted into the small intestine to hold it open, or, in cases where this doesn’t work, bypass surgery may be performed to connect the stomach to a lower point in the intestines that aren’t obstructed.
- Weight loss – Janumet pancreatic cancer complication that can be caused by nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or a tumor pressing against the abdomen. Weight loss may also occur because the person’s body is not processing nutrients properly. If this is the case, pancreatic enzyme supplements may be prescribed to help with digestion. Patients in this situation can help maintain their weight by adding extra calories to their meals, and by making mealtime a pleasant experience.
