Human Growth Hormone Linked to Increased Risk of Death
December 22, 2010 – A recent study conducted in France has found that certain individuals treated with recombinant human growth hormone during childhood were at an increased risk of death. The so-called Santé Adulte GH Enfant (SAGhE) study is currently under review by the FDA, and will update new information when it becomes available.
What is Recombinant HGH?
Recombinant HGH is growth hormone that is artificially synthesized in the lab. It is a biosynthetic hormone that is identical to human growth hormone. Hormones are tiny chemical messengers made up of amino acids that help our body aqccomplish different tasks.

Recombinant human growth hormone is used in children to treat short stature due to growth hormone deficiency, Turner syndrome, Noonan syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, short stature homeobox-containing gene (SHOX) deficiency, chronic renal insufficiency, idiopathic short stature and children small for gestational age. Recombinant human growth hormone is marketed under the following brand names:
- Genotropin
- Humatrope
- Norditropin
- Nutropin
