Update: Honda Recalls Over 720,000 Vehicles Nationwide Due to Fuel Pump Defect
Honda has initiated a recall affecting approximately 720,810 vehicles across the United States, citing a manufacturing defect that could lead to fuel leaks and elevate the risk of fire or injury [1.].
The recall applies to specific models, including the 2023–2024 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, 2023–2025 CR-V Hybrid, and 2025 Civic and Civic Hybrid. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a flaw in the production process of the high-pressure fuel pump.
“Cracks may develop in the solenoid core portion of the fuel pump due to improper manufacturing,” the NHTSA stated. “These cracks can result in fuel leakage, particularly in vehicles with lower mileage while the pump is in use.”
A leaking fuel system, when exposed to an ignition source, significantly increases the chances of a fire, crash, or serious injury.
Honda dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles and, if needed, replace the faulty high-pressure fuel pump at no cost to the vehicle owner. Owners of impacted models will receive official recall notices with further instructions on how to schedule a service appointment.
Drivers concerned about whether their vehicle is included in this recall can check using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA’s recall lookup tool or by contacting a Honda dealership directly.
What’s the Problem?
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall affects 2013-2015 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission that were originally sold, or ever registered, in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The recalled vehicles were assembled with a lubricant that may have degraded the drive shafts’ protective coating, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt or other contaminants, potentially causing it to break. A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power, and the vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake is not applied.
“Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury,” NHTSA said.
Honda is notifying owners and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the drive shafts, free of charge.
This recall began on February 1, 2021.
