Monsanto to pay $289 Million to Cancer Patient in Glyphosate Lawsuit
In August 2018, A jury in California ordered Monsanto to pay $289 million to a former San Francisco school groundskeeper who developed terminal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after using Roundup and its other glyphosate-containing herbicides. The jury ruled that Plaintiff Dwayne Johnson's cancer was at least partly due to using glyphosate, which he regularly used to spray fields while working as a groundskeeper. Monsanto "acted with malice, oppression or fraud and should be punished for its conduct," Judge Suzanne Ramos Bolanos announced in court.
