July 31, 2012 – The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that Green Toys Inc., of Mill Valley, Calif., is now recalling approximately 50,000 mini vehicles due to a design flaw that poses a serious choking hazard to young children. According to the CPSC, the wheels and hubcaps on the cars can detach, and may be accidentally swallowed by children playing with the toys. To date, the company has received at least 10 reports of wheels and hubcaps detaching or loosening from the miniature vehicles.

All cars are made of plastic and are available in yellow, greed, red, white and blue. For Mini Vehicle and Fastback sets, the model numbers are located on the bottom of the toys’ packaging. For all other cars, a label with the model number can be found on the bottom of the toy itself.
The Mini Vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between March and June 2012. The date of manufacture is represented by a circle with an arrow in the middle, which is located on the underside of the front of the car. To the left and right of the arrow are numbers that indicate the year, and the arrow itself points to the number that represents the month. Please note: Mini Vehicles with an ‘I’ on the underside of the car next to the date stamp are not included in this recall.
Green Toys Mini Vehicles were sold via Internet sales, at mass merchandisers, grocery stores, and independent toy stores around the country between April and June 2012. Individual cars cost about $5 each, or $18 for the complete set. Consumers who purchased Green Toys Mini Vehicles included in this recall should take them away from children immediately, and contact the company for a full refund.
