Salmonella Poisoning Symptoms

The incubation period for salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, ranges from several hours to 2 days, according to the Mayo Clinic. Most cases of salmonellosis can be classified as stomach flu (gastroenteritis). Signs and symptoms include:

  • Abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Blood in the stool

These symptoms typically last from 2 to 7 days and resolve without the need for medical intervention. Diarrhea may last up to 10 days, although it may take several months before bowels return to normal.
