What’s the Problem?
This recall affects 12 lots of Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets USP, 750 mg, 100 and 500 count, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Granules Pharmaceuticals issued the recall after routine testing showed NDMA levels above the FDA Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) Limit.
Animal studies have linked NDMA to liver, lung, and kidney cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) says it can also cause gastric or colorectal cancer.
If you were prescribed any metformin that is included in this recall, you should contact Granules Pharmaceuticals for information about a return/replacement. Anyone concerned about a potential adverse reaction to NDMA in metformin should consult their physician.
This recall began on July 3, 2020.
