George Oliver Dresser Recall Lawsuit: Overview
According to a Recall Notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1.], this action affects George Oliver-branded 6-drawer, wooden double dressers that measure about 31 inches tall, 47 inches wide and 15-½ inches.
“The recalled dressers are unstable if they are not properly anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards, and the two additional metal support legs also present tripping hazards,” CPSC said. “The dressers violate performance and warning label requirements of the STURDY Act.”
The recalled dressers were sold exclusively online at Wayfair.com from September 2024 through March 2025 for about $275.
If you purchased a dresser that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately unless it is properly anchored to a wall and place it in an area that children cannot access. Contact Pliman for instructions to receive a full refund.
This recall began on March 27, 2025.
The CPSC Recall Number for this item is 25-202.
Why Dressers Can Be Deadly
While dressers are a staple in bedrooms across the country, they can pose serious safety risks—especially to young children. The tip-over hazard associated with unstable or improperly anchored dressers has led to dozens of child fatalities and thousands of injuries over the years.
When a child climbs on an open drawer or pulls one out too far, the dresser’s weight can shift forward, causing it to topple. In mere seconds, this can result in crushing injuries, suffocation, or even death.
Another hidden risk is entrapment, which occurs when a child becomes pinned between a fallen dresser and the floor, wall, or other furniture. These incidents are often silent and can happen while caregivers are only briefly out of the room.
To combat these dangers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges consumers to use furniture anchors or anti-tip kits to secure dressers to the wall. Manufacturers are also increasingly required to meet stability standards under legislation like the STURDY Act.
Prevention starts with awareness. Anchoring furniture and educating households about tip-over risks are crucial steps to ensure your home remains a safe space—especially for the smallest, most vulnerable family members.
