What’s the Problem?

This recall affects 2019-2020 Forest River Berkshire and Sportscoach motorhomes equipped with air disc brakes, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The brake caliper mounting bolts on affected motorhomes may have been insufficiently tightened, NHTSA said. Loose brake caliper mounting bolts can reduce brake effectiveness, increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River is contacting owners and dealers will inspect and repair the motorhomes, free of charge. This recall began on April 28, 2020.

Forest River RV Power Inverter Recall

Forest River Inc. is recalling 2021 Berkshire BEA40C-380, BEA40E-380, BEA45A-450, and BEA45CA-450 motorhomes equipped with 3000W power inverters which may supply too much current to the 10 gauge Romex wire. “Overloaded wires may increase the risk of a fire,” NHTSA said.

This recall began on September 24, 2020. Forest’s number for this recall is 40-1225.

Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Faulty Wiring in Forest River RVs Causes Fires

A class action lawsuit filed in June 2022 alleges that model years 2002-2022 Forest River Palomino Puma Fifth Wheel RVs were manufactured without the proper overcurrent protection needed to protect from an electrical short.

Plaintiff Jay Nelson claims he noticed smoke coming out of his 2019 Forest River Puma RV in May 2020 during a family camping trip that was caused by a wire short. The short occurred because Berkshire Hathaway had not properly insulated the wire or protected its conductors, according to the class action.

“Forest River knows that all conductors must be provided with overcurrent protection and that without proper circuit breaker protection, the wire can overheat, increasing the risk of fire,” the complaint states.

The lawsuit is: Nelson v. Forest River Inc., et al., Case No. 4:22-cv-00049, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana.
