What’s the Problem?
This recall affects:
- 2017-2019 Ford Super Duty F-250
- 2017-2019 Ford Super Duty F-350
- 2017-2019 Ford Super Duty F-450
Affected models are equipped with an electric tailgate latch release switch mounted in the tailgate handle, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Water may enter the electrical wiring system and cause a short circuit, activating the switch and releasing the tailgate latches, causing cargo to be released while the pickup is being operated, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford is notifying owners and dealerships will fix the problem free of charge. The recall is scheduled to begin on Jan. 20, 2020, according to the NHTSA.
