What’s the Problem?
October 4, 2016 – NHTSA said there have been at least 25 customer complaints involving claims of “a sudden and complete loss of brakes” in Ford F-150 trucks. Affected vehicles include the 2015 and 2016 model year F-150s that have 3.5-liter engines.
In May, Ford issued a recall for approximately 271,000 six-cylinder Ford F-150s from model years 2013 and 2014 over concerns that brake fluid could leak from the master cylinder and cause brake failure.
NHTSA says it received at least 10 complaints about 2015 brake failures and another 15 about the 2016 F-150 trucks. Safety regulators will decide if the 2015 and 2016 models should be included in the recall. The F-series pickup is currently the best-selling vehicle in the U.S., according to MarketWatch.
If you own a F-150 pickup affected by the recall, Ford said it will replace the master cylinder for free. The automaker will also replace the brake booster if inspectors find leaks from the master cylinder, according to CBS News.
