What’s the problem?

March 16, 2012 – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) [1] announced today that El Ranchero Del Sur, LLC, is currently recalling the following queso products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes:

  • El Ranchero Queso Fresco 14 oz. (Fresh Cheese) – UPC 88052230013 – plastic clamshell;
  • Los Corrales Queso Fresco en Hoja De Platano 14 oz. (Fresh Cheese In Banana Leaf) – UPC 880522300037 – plastic clamshell;

The problem was identified when the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services discovered that Los Corrales Queso Fresco en Hoja De Platano was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. El Ranchero Del Sur has ceased the production and distribution of these products while the FDA continues its investigation into the source of the contamination.

Consumers who have purchased El Ranchero Del Sur queso included in this recall should discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. To date, there have been no illnesses reported in connection with this recall.
