Problems Continue To Plague Wright County Egg
October 19, 2010 – According to federal regulators, Wright County Egg, LLC – The farm that was tied to this summer’s nationwide egg recall – still remains in violation of safety standards.
Last week, the FDA sent a warning letter to Quality & Wright County Egg facility owner Austin J. Decoster, listing a number of deficiencies at the egg facility that inspectors say makes it non-compliant with egg safety rules and could lead to another salmonella outbreak.
This summer’s recall involved eggs distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and foodservice companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
Eggs are packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, James Farms, Glenview, Pacific Coast and Kemps. The eggs were packed in varying sizes of cartons (6-egg cartons, dozen egg cartons, 18-egg cartons).
Both Quality & Wright County Egg have long been plagued by problems, which have only come to light in the aftermath of the egg recall. The companies have been cited numerous times in the past due to non-compliance with a variety of federal regulations. Following the recall, the farms have been targeted by a number of egg food poisoning lawsuits.
