November 6, 2018 - The recall was issued over "a positive finding of Salmonella in a retail sample of Duncan Hines Classic White cake mix that may be linked to a Salmonella outbreak that is currently being investigated by CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and FDA," Conagra Brands, the company that owns Duncan Hines, said in a statement.

What’s the Problem?
CDC is conducting interviews with people diagnosed with salmonellosis, the infection caused by salmonella bacteria, to determine whether they’d eaten any cakes from Duncan Hines before falling ill.
"Several of the individuals reported consuming a cake mix at some point prior to becoming ill, and some may have also consumed these products raw and not baked," FDA said.
