May 4, 2012 – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued a press release [1] today informing the public that Cleveland Beansprouts Co. of Cleveland, OH, is currently recalling all of its alfalfa sprouts because they have the potential to be contaminated with listeria.

All alfalfa sprouts produced by the company are affected by this recall. There are no lot codes, UPC numbers, or any other way to identify the product in question. The alfalfa sprouts being recalled were only distributed in the state of Ohio.

The issue was discovered through routine sampling by the Ohio Department of Agriculture which revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. Anyone who has purchased Cleveland Beansprouts alfalfa sprouts should discard them immediately and consult a doctor if symptoms of food poisoning appear.
