The recalled chia seeds were sent to Walmart for distribution nationwide via retail sales. The recalled products can be identified by the main label on the pouch and the lot number on the bottom of the back panel of the packaging, FDA said.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, FDA said.
In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
If you purchased any Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds that are affected by this recall, you should not use them, and either discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
