Nationwide Challenge Dairy Egg Recall

Challenge Dairy is now recalling 5 dozen large size egg cartons labeled with Plant ID#s 1292 & 1091 and Julian Dates 139 through 194. The egg recall list continues to expand, and egg brands associated with the 2010 salmonella outbreak are more numerous than previously expected. Consumers are urged to check their eggs against the full list to determine if they do have tainted products. If so, they are to take the product back to the retailer for a full refund.

Salmonella Poisoning tied to Cruel Farming Practices

Congressional leaders have launched an investigation of the two Iowa egg farms that were recently implicated in the nationwide salmonella outbreak. Among other things, Congress plans to review documents pertaining to the health, safety, environmental and/or animal welfare allegations against or violations committed by Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms – the Iowa farms implicated in this case – and/or their suppliers. Jack DeCoster, the owner of Wright County Egg and Quality Egg of New England, the company that supplies chickens and chicken feed to both Wright County and Hillandale, has been cited for numerous offenses throughout the years, including cruelty to animals.
