What's the Problem?
The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) [1] on Dec. 18, 2019, announced a nationwide recall for about 31,000 Chadwick and Bailey 5-drawer chests over concerns the chests are unstable and can tip over if not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards to children.
The chests do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard (ASTM F2057-17), according to the CPSC.
The recall affects Chadwick and Bailey 5-drawer wood chests in white, mission oak, espresso and dove gray colors. The words “Hillsdale Furniture” are printed on the back of the chest. The chests measure 48 inches tall by 36 inches wide by 17 inches deep. Affected chests were sold at Bob’s Discount Furniture and other retailers nationwide from August 2010 through August 2019 for about $280.
If you purchased a Chadwick and Bailey chest that is being recalled, you should stop using it immediately if it is not securely anchored to a wall, and contact Hillsdale Furniture for information about a refund or repair. Remedy options include a free repair kit, free in-home installation of repair kit, or free pick-up of the chest.
