Safety Alert: Celerite Slimming Capsules pulled from market due to undeclared Sibutramine, a controlled substance banned from the market for safety reasons. Consumers advised to discontinue use and discard immediately.
What’s the problem?
January 14, 2011 – In what appears to be the latest ‘dietary supplement’ discovered to contain sibutramine, Celerite Slimming Capsules have been withdrawn from the market for containing the undeclared dangerous drug. Celerite is marketed for weight loss, and is sold on various websites. Product claims falsely state that it is “safe” and an “all-natural herbal weight loss remedy.”
Consumers should stop using this product immediately and throw it away. Individuals who have experienced any negative side effects should consult a healthcare professional as soon as possible.
Why is Sibutramine a Controlled Substance?
A high number of cardiovascular events has been observed in certain individuals taking the drug versus a control group. Last year, FDA noted that sibutramine increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease. This product may also interact in life threatening ways with other medications a consumer may be taking.
