What’s the Problem?
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall affects:
- 2020-2021 BMW 740Li
- 2020-2021 BMW 740Li xDrive
- 2020-2021 BMW 750Li xDrive
- 2020-2021 BMW M760Li xDrive
- 2020-2021 BMW Alpina B7
The top child seat tether anchor on the rear middle seat of affected vehicles may not be readily accessible, NHTSA said.
The recalled BMWs fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, Section 6.1(b) “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.” A child restraint system placed on the vehicle’s rear middle seat without utilizing the 3-point safety belt could increase the risk of injury to children during a crash.
BMW is notifying owners and dealers will install a top tether anchor cover at the rear middle seating position.
This recall began on August 24, 2020.
