According to a Recall Notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1.], this action affects all sizes of Black Diamond Vision Harnesses which are designed for technical alpine and ice climbs.

“The recalled BD Vision harnesses can degrade over time and fail to support the climber, posing a fall hazard resulting in serious injury or death,” CPSC said. “Black Diamond has received one report involving the harness’ waist belt failing.”

The recalled Black Diamond Climbing Harnesses have fixed leg loops and were sold in black and white colors. The words “Black Diamond” are printed on one of the leg loops. “Vision” is printed on the other leg loop.

Affected products were sold online and at Liberty Mountain, Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) and other specialty outdoor stores nationwide from January 2018 through February 2025 for about $175.

If you purchased a Black Diamond Climbing Harness that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and contact Black Diamond for a refund or a one-time-use $200 credit which can be used at a Black Diamond store or at the company’s website.

This recall began on March 13, 2025.

The CPSC Recall Number for this item is 25-181.
