Update: Prescription Testosterone Supplements Draw New Addiction & Dependence Warnings
January 18, 2017 – Amid growing concerns about the health risks associated with testosterone prescriptions, federal regulators have required new warnings on labels of the products, indicating that users face a risk of addiction and abuse.
“Abuse of testosterone, usually at doses higher than those typically prescribed and usually in conjunction with other AAS, is associated with serious safety risks affecting the heart, brain, liver, mental health and endocrine system,” FDA said. “Reported serious adverse outcomes include heart attack, heart failure, stroke, depression, hostility, aggression, liver toxicity, and male infertility.”
What is Bio-T-Gel?
Bio-T-Gel contains a reservoir of testosterone supplementation, which seeps into the skin slowly throughout the day. The product is marketed as a safe way to absorb testosterone, and it protects other people from accidentally coming into physical contact with it during routine activities. Bio-T-Gel is made by Teva, and was approved by the FDA in February of 2012.
FDA Requires Heart Attack, Stroke Warning to be Added to Bio-T-Gel Labels
March 3, 2015 – FDA issued a press release today announcing label changes that will be applied to all approved prescription testosterone supplements. The updated labeling warns that testosterone has been linked to heart attack, stroke, and other severe cardiovascular side effects, and that the supplements should not be prescribed to men for the sole purpose of treating symptoms associated with the normal aging process. Testosterone Pharmaceutical Sales
Testosterone supplementation is a rapidly emerging field in pharmaceutical sales. Bio-T-Gel is prescribed to men for a condition often referred to as “Low T.” Recent studies have shown that many doctors have limited or no knowledge about the possible long-term complications of testosterone boosters. The New York Times has also reported that testosterone products like Bio-T-Gel may increase users’ risk of heart attack, stroke, and death without providing any tangible benefit for the Low T condition.

Has a Bio-T-Gel Class Action Lawsuit Been Filed?
Although we are a nationally recognized class action firm, the Products Liability Litigation Group at our law firm has decided against the filing of a Bio-T-Gel Class Action Suit, and is currently filing individual claims on behalf of individuals and/or their family members who have been injured after using Bio-T-Gel.
In some instances, a class action may offer some advantages, as they aggregate a large number of individualized claims into one representational lawsuit. The aggregation can increase the efficiency of the legal process, lower the costs of litigation and in some cases offer the solution to a common problem wherein small recoveries do not provide the incentive for any individual or law firm to file an individual lawsuit.
However, a class action suit can also be a detriment to many class members, as they are often forced into a blanket “low ball settlement” and higher attorney fees. At Schmidt & Clark, LLP we understand that our clients are suffering emotionally and economically due to loss of wages and/or high medical bills and we plan to maximize each client’s recovery by filing individual Bio-T-Gel Lawsuits on their behalf.
