A Texas man who allegedly suffered severe gastrointestinal side effects after taking the blood pressure drug Benicar (generic: olmesartan) has filed a products liability lawsuit against the manufacturers and prescribing doctor.
What’s the Problem?
July 19, 2016 – According to the lawsuit, Plaintiff Allen Williamson was prescribed Benicar by Dr. Srinivasa Kothapalli in Port Arthur, Texas. While using the recommended dosage of the drug, he experienced severe gastrointestinal (GI) complications including colonic disease manifestations, colitis and intestinal malabsorption.
As a result of these problems, Williamson had to be hospitalized after suffering from chronic diarrhea, rapid weight loss, nausea, vomiting, malnutrition, dehydration and acute renal failure (end-stage renal disease or ESRD).
Williamson says he’s suffered life threatening injuries, causing him severe emotional distress. Plaintiff alleges gross negligence and seeks an award of exemplary damages, in addition to damages for pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of consortium.
The complaint was filed July 7 by Williamson and his wife Kathryn against Daiichi Sankyo, Forest Laboratories and Dr. Kothapalli on July 7 in Jefferson County District Court under case number B-198699. Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
