What’s the Problem?
According to an FDA Recall Notice [1], this action affects Baraka Ground Black Pepper in 7oz plastic containers with UPC code 8 22514 26626 6.
The potential for contamination was noted after the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) notified us of the contamination based on a routine state surveillance sample collected by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets that tested positive for Salmonella the presence of Salmonella in some 7 ounce packages of Ground Black Pepper – Agency stated
The recalled “black pepper” was sold in a clear plastic package marked with an expiration date of January 2026, and distributed nationwide in retail stores, FDA said.
UBC Food Distributors has ceased production of Baraka Ground Pepper pending an investigation into the source of the contamination.
If you purchased any Baraka Ground Pepper that is affected by this recall, you should not use it, and either discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.
Anyone concerned about a potential salmonella food poisoning illness should contact their healthcare provider or dial 9-1-1.
