Baker’s Corner Flour Recall Lawsuit

May 24, 2019 – The supermarket chain ALDI has issued a nationwide recall for its The Baker’s Corner All Purpose Flour over concerns it may be contaminated with E. coli, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned on Thursday.

The recalled flour, which was produced by Archer Daniels Midland, was distributed in 5 pound bags to the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.

Update: Baker’s Corner Flour Linked to Multi-State Outbreak of E. Coli Infections, CDC Warns

May 28, 2019 – The CDC is warning about an E. coli outbreak linked to raw flour that was recalled last week by the supermarket chain ALDI and sold under The Baker’s Corner brand which has sickened at least 17 people in 8 states. Illness onset dates range from Dec. 11, 2018, to April 18, 2019, and at least 3 people have been hospitalized for complications associated with their illnesses, CDC said.

What’s the Problem?

If you purchased any Baker’s Corner Flour that is affected by this recall, you should not use it, and either discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund, ALDI said in a press release (PDF) accompanying the FDA recall notice.

Signs of E. coli food poisoning typically appear within 1 to 3 days after ingestion of the offending product, according to the Mayo Clinic. In most cases, symptoms of infection include:

  • Acute, severe diarrhea (may be bloody)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting

To date, no E. coli infections or other adverse events have been associated with the recalled flour, FSIS said.
