Our lawyers are now reviewing potential lawsuits for people who developed kidney failure after taking Azor (generic: olmesartan and amlodipine), a blood pressure medication. Kidney failure occurs when the kidneys become unable to filter waste products from the blood. Unlike many diseases, kidney failure often has no symptoms until its later stages, making treatment and recovery extremely difficult.

10 Symptoms of Kidney Disease
Symptom 1: Changes in Urination
- Kidneys make urine, so when the kidneys have been injured, the urine may change in the following ways:
- You may have to get up at night repeatedly to urinate.
- Your urine may come out foamy or bubbly.
- You may urinate more frequently, or in greater volume, with pale urine.
- You may urinate less frequently, or in smaller volumes, with dark urine.
- Your urine may have traces of blood in it.
- You may feel pressure or have difficulty while urinating.
Symptom 2: Swelling
Failing kidneys are unable to excrete fluids from the blood, which build up in the body causing swelling in the legs, ankles, feet, face, and hands.
Symptom 3: Fatigue
The kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO) that tells the body to make oxygenated red blood cells. When the kidneys start to fail, they manufacture smaller quantities of EPO. With fewer red blood cells to carry oxygen, the muscles and brain get tired rapidly. This condition is referred to as anemia.
Symptom 4: Skin Rash / Itching
Kidneys take wastes out of the blood. When they fail, the accumulation of wastes in the bloodstream can cause severe itching.
Symptom 5: Metallic Taste in the Mouth / Ammonia Breath
The accumulation of waste products in the blood (uremia) can make food taste different and cause bad breath. The patient may also stop eating meat, or lose weight because they don’t feel like eating.
Symptom 6: Nausea / Vomiting
Uremia can also cause nausea and vomiting. Reduced appetite can lead to weight loss.
Symptom 7: Shortness of Breath
Shortness of breath can be related to the kidneys in 2 ways: First, extra fluid can accumulate in the lungs. Second, anemia can leave the body deprived of oxygen and short of breath.
Symptom 8: Feeling Cold
A low red blood cell count can make you feel cold all the time, even in warm clothes or with blankets.
Symptom 9: Dizziness / Trouble Concentrating
Kidney failure-induced anemia causes the brain to not get enough oxygen. This can cause memory problems, trouble with concentration and periodic dizziness.
Symptom 10: Leg / Flank Pain
The most common causes of kidney disease do not cause any pain. And, much of the pain near the kidneys is not caused by CKD. However, certain kidney failure patients do have pain in the upper back (where the kidneys are) or on the same side as the affected kidney.
How Can I Tell if I am at Risk of Kidney Failure?
Ask yourself these questions to determine whether you are at risk of developing kidney failure:
- Do you have diabetes?
- Do you have high blood pressure (hypertension)?
- Do you have a history of heart problems?
- Does anyone in your family have kidney disease?
- Do you take Azor or other olmesartan-containing blood pressure medication?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be at risk for developing kidney disease. Contact your doctor now to get tested.
Can I File a Azor Lawsuit?
Only a qualified attorney can determine whether you are eligible to file a lawsuit against Daiichi Sankyo, the maker of Azor, which is why we are currently offering free case evaluations. Simply fill out the confidential evaluation form below to contact our law firm now.
Most cases involving pharmaceuticals allege that a drug was sold with design, manufacturing, and/or marketing defects, which typically refers to a company’s failure to warn of a certain side effect. In the case of Azor, our attorneys suspect that patients may be able to take legal action in light of claims that Daiichi Sankyo failed to adequately warn doctors and patients about the risk of kidney failure.
How Can Filing a Lawsuit Help Me?
By filing a lawsuit against the maker of Azor, you may be entitled to collect compensation for all current and future medical expenses related to the treatment of your kidney failure, as well as for damages for pain and suffering. Additionally, filing a lawsuit can help hold the drug’s manufacturer accountable for releasing an allegedly defective drug into the marketplace, and to discourage other pharmaceutical companies from engaging in similar conduct.
