Update: Audi Recalls Over 4,000 e-tron GT Models Due to Faulty Passenger Airbag Sensors
As of May 6, 2025, Audi has issued a recall affecting more than 4,000 vehicles, specifically 2022–2023 Audi RS e-tron GT and Audi e-tron GT models. The reason: potential airbag deactivation issues due to problems with the passenger occupant detection system wiring.
Vehicles involved may experience a malfunction where the front passenger airbag disables itself despite someone sitting in the seat. This poses a serious safety risk, especially in the event of a crash.
Drivers may notice something’s wrong if:
- The airbag warning light turns on
- A Passenger Airbag OFF message is displayed
- An error notification shows up on the dash
If any of these warnings appear, owners are urged to visit an Audi dealership right away.
Audi will begin mailing out recall notices starting June 6, 2025. The fix? Dealerships will replace the passenger-side seat cushions to resolve the defect.
For more info, owners can contact Audi and reference recall number 74HC related to the seat cushion replacement.

The electrical connector on affected Audi vehicles can detach from the door crash sensor in either of the front doors. “A detached connector can delay the activation of the restraint systems, including the side airbag, curtain airbag, and/or seatbelt pre-tensioners during a side impact crash, increasing the risk of injury,” NHTSA said.
Volkswagen is notifying owners and dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the crash sensors in both front doors for free.
This recall began on December 29, 2020.
