Which Arugula Products are Affected by the Recall?
According to FDA Recall Alert, the recall affects 1 lot of 4-ounce containers of Green Life Farms Baby Arugula [1] published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recalled arugula comes in a clear plastic package marked with the lot code# LW15124 stamped on the top and a sell-by date of 6/15/24.
Symptoms of Salmonella may include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps,” FDA said. “Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food and usually lasts four to seven days. Children younger than five, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections – FDA stated
Where Was the Recalled Arugula Sold?
Arugula products affected by this recall were sold at select Publix grocery stores from 5/31/24, the FDA said. To date, no salmonella infections have been reported in connection with this recall.
Why was the Arugula Recall Initiated?
Green Life Farms initiated this recall after routine testing revealed the presence of salmonella in a single harvest of Baby Arugula. The company took immediate corrective action and additional harvests remain unaffected, according to the FDA.
FDA Recommendation
If you purchased any Green Life Farms Baby Arugula that is affected by this recall, you should not eat it, and either throw it away or return it to any Publix grocery store for a full refund.

This recall began on June 8, 2024.

According to the NCBI [2], salmonella infections globally range from 200 million to 1 billion cases annually, resulting in 93 million instances of gastroenteritis and 155,000 deaths. Approximately 85% of these cases are attributed to contaminated food.

The CDC estimates that salmonella is responsible for 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths each year in the United States.
Notification Rates
In 2022, Czechia and Slovakia had the highest notification rates of salmonella, with 71.9 and 67.5 cases per 100,000 people, respectively. Conversely, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Latvia reported the lowest rates, with 4.0, 4.5, and 4.8 cases per 100,000 people, respectively.
Hospitalization Rates
In 2022, 39.3% of reported salmonellosis cases required hospitalization. Romania, Cyprus, Greece, and Lithuania had the highest hospitalization rates at 100%, 87.1%, 83.0%, and 79.9%, respectively.
