Amy’s Kitchen Recalls Spinach Products Due to Listeria Contamination

Amy’s Kitchen was informed of the presence of listeria in is products by one of its organic spinach suppliers, according to an FDA press release. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the products; however, the company is recalling them as a precautionary measure. Products affected by the recall were distributed to stores nationwide and in Canada. If you purchased any food items on the list, you should discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria Symptoms

Listeria food poisoning (listeriosis) is a severe, potentially life-threatening infection that occurs when people ingest the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. It primarily affects children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms of listeria food poisoning typically include varying degrees of:

  • fever
  • muscle aches
  • nausea
  • diarrhea

If listeriosis spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include:

  • headache

Superior Foods Recalls Spinach Sold at Target Stores

March 24, 2015 – Another recall has been issued for spinach products over potential listeria contamination. This time, Watsonville, CA-based Superior Foods Inc. is recalling 8,475 cases of Simply Balanced Frozen Organic Spinach sold at Target stores nationwide.
