In other news, federal emergency officials have begun offering shelter to residents of the approximately 70 homes that were destroyed or severely damaged by the explosion. The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) has stated that the transitional sheltering assistance was requested by Texas state officials. Assistance would allow individuals and families whose homes were left uninhabitable stay in a hotel or motel at government expense. Meals, phone calls, and other charges will not be covered, and applicants are responsible for any additional expenses above the authorized lodging costs, according to the statement. FEMA is currently in the process of notifying eligible applicants.
