What’s the Problem?

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall affects:

  • 2019 Airstream International
  • 2019 Airstream Flying Cloud
  • 2019 Airstream Classic

These RVs were sold with a stove saddle valve securing bolt that may have been overtightened, potentially damaging the O-ring seal and causing a continuous gas leak. “A gas leak can increase the risk of a fire,” NHTSA said.

Airstream is notifying owners and dealers will install a complementary remedy kit of gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and 2 round orange labels.

If you own one of the Airstream RVs listed above and you smell gas, because gas can leak into the RV through a damaged stove valve, you should immediately shut the gas off. Do not attempt to use gas inside the vehicle until repairs are made, and do not attempt to use the cooking stove.

Open all windows and doors to dissipate gas fumes. Remove all ignition sources from the area inside the RV until all traces of gas smell are gone. Do Not attempt to use any gas appliance in the RV including the cooking stove until the remedy is installed.

Do not attempt to repair a gas leak occurring within or emanating from these cooking stoves on your own. Any repair or remedy should be performed by a qualified service technician.

This recall began on February 9, 2021.
