Nationwide Toyota Recall for Faulty Brakes
December 15, 2010 – This week, Toyota Motor Corp. announced that it will be recalling 94,000 Sienna minivans nationwide due to a problem with the braking system.
On the affected vehicles, there is a light switch bracket located close to the parking brake which could get damaged while operating. Over time, the damage could impair the braking system, putting the vehicle at risk of crashing.
Since September 2009, Toyota has recalled approximately 11 million vehicles globally in no fewer than 15 recalls, more than any other car manufacturer. The recalls range from problems with faulty accelerator gas pedals to slipping floor mats.
The string of recalls has already tarnished Toyota’s reputation, resulting in declining sales, lower vehicle resale value, and fallen stock price. In the first 9 months of 2010, the automaker’s sales in the U.S. increased by only 1.1%, the lowest among the major automakers. Additionally, the car maker’s market share fell to 15.2% from 16.6% in the same period a year ago.
