February 16, 2011 – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced today that Triad Medical, Inc. will be recalling Sterile Lubricating Jelly products because they may not be sterile. Products in question may be contained in kits, packs, or trays that were packaged after December 2010 by other firms including the following brand names:

February 16, 2011 – A recent lawsuit filed in federal court claims that a two year old boy died as the result of a contaminated alcohol prep pad manufactured by Triad Group, Inc. According to the claim, the boy’s deadly meningitis infection was caused by Bacillus cereus bacteria in a contaminated pad. Triad Group announced a nationwide recall on all lots of its alcohol pads and swabs one month after the boy’s death.

The boy’s mother, Sandra Kothar said, “The missing piece of the puzzle came when the FDA announced the recall for the Triad alcohol pads and swabs for the exact bacteria contamination that killed my son. These alcohol wipes are used every day in hospitals, clinics and homes. People think they’re safe.”

Bacillus Cereus

Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) is a type of bacteria that produces toxins that can cause two types of illness: one characterized by diarrhea and the other, called emetic, by nausea and vomiting. Duration of the illness typically lasts 24 hours or more; call your healthcare provider if you cannot drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration.
