The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to the public advising consumers not to purchase or consume Japan Weight Loss Blue, a dietary supplement allegedly designed to promote weight loss. An FDA lab analysis confirmed that the product contains sibutramine, which is a controlled substance that was banned from the U.S. market in October 2010 for safety reasons. Sibutramine has been linked to serious side effects including pounding heartbeat, vision changes, trouble breathing, and serotonin syndrome.

What’s the problem?

February 18, 2012 – According to the FDA Warning [1], Japan Weight Loss Blue is dangerous because the sibutramine contained in it has been found to have the potential to increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate. The product may present an increased risk of these side effects in patients with a history of:

  • Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
  • Arrhythmias
  • Stroke

Additionally, Japan Weight Loss Blue may interact negatively with other medications a patient may be taking. This product has also been found to contain ephedrine alkaloids, which have the potential to raise blood pressure and stress the circulatory system. The FDA is advising consumers in possession of Japan Weight Loss Blue to stop using it immediately and discard any remaining product.
