Hillandale Farms Egg Recall Information

Hillandale Farms of Iowa said on Aug. 20, 2010 that it was voluntarily recalling shell eggs potentially contaminated with salmonella. The expanding list of egg recall brands now includes Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Wholesome Farms, and West Creek. It has been reported that both Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms share suppliers of chickens and chicken feed.

Egg Recall List

The recall involves eggs distributed to 14 states: Arkansas, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin. The egg recall brands include: Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, and Sunny Meadow in a variety of packages, including in 6-egg, 12-egg, 18-egg, and 30-egg cartons as well as five-dozen cases.

Salmonella Outbreak

Investigators from the Food and Drug Administration are working to find the cause of a salmonella outbreak that has sickened as many as 1,300 people and forced the recall of more than a half-billion eggs. The number of illnesses, which can be life-threatening, especially to those with weakened immune systems, is expected to increase. The most common symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever eight to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product.
