What’s the problem?

August 23, 2010 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded a recall of eggs possibly tainted with Salmonella to 380 million eggs packaged under 19 name brands.

The 380 million eggs affected by the recall that expanded last Wednesday are packaged under the brand names Bayview, Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Sun Valley, Lund, Dutch Farms, Kemps, Glenview, James Farms, Nulaid and Pacific Coast.

The recalled eggs are in cartons of six, 12, or 18 eggs. To find out whether your eggs are included in the recall, examine the side of the package to see whether the numbers match with the recalled batches described below:

• Five dozen size large
• No. 1686
• 142 through 149
• UPC 7-17544-30172-1

The FDA said specific egg shells produced by Wright County farms have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.

The eggs were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and food service companies in California, Arizona, Missouri, Minnesota, Texas, Georgia, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, Illinois, Utah, Nebraska, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.
