What’s the problem?

April 28, 2011 - This month, a cold therapy lawsuit was filed in Texas by plaintiff Victoria Lynn Williams, who alleges she suffered extensive tissue damage after using a DeRoyal T600 Hold and Cold Therapy System for an injury. Williams claims that the process used by the device was too cold and lasted too long, which led to permanent damage, and that the manufacturer failed to adequately warn of the potential risks.

Cold Therapy Side Effects

Williams’ claim is just one of a growing number of lawsuits involving various cold therapy injuries. Cold therapy machines treat pain and swelling by restricting blood flow to the injured area, slowing down nerve impulses, and distracting pain. However, a number of adverse side effects have been reported with the devices including:

  • frostbite
  • nerve damage
  • skin damage
  • wrist, ankle, shoulder or back injury
  • hand amputation
  • foot amputation
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)

Defective Cold Therapy Machines

In addition to the DeRoyal devices, our law firm is pursuing litigation against the following cold therapy device manufacturers:
EBIce

Breg Polar Care 500
