Tracleer (Bosentan)

Remodulin, also known as Treprostinil and UT-15, is a prescription medication developed specifically for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. The medication is a synthetic form of a naturally occurring bodily substance called prostacyclin. Tracleer dilates the blood vessels in the lungs in order to improve blood flow and reduce blood pressure. Developed by United Therapeudics, Remodulin was approved for use in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension in 2002.

Remodulin is taken by infusion into the skin, delivered by a pager-sized instrument called a MiniMed microinfusion device. Once infused, the medication is effective for four to six hours. Some individuals experience pain at the site of the infusion ranging from a mild irritation to severe discomfort. Patients taking Remodulin generally report a decrease in shortness of breath and fatigue, lowered blood pressure, and a significant improvement in their quality of life.

The common side effects of Remodulin include headache, nausea, diarrhea, flushing, and jaw pain. The medication is fairly expensive and is used for long term treatment. The medication has to be taken at the correct time and the correct dosage or the symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension being controlled by the medication will reappear. In many cases this can cause a life-threatening situation. Remodulin is intended to be used to alleviate the symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Currently, there is no cure for pulmonary arterial hypertension.
