ReNu with MoistureLoc Recall Lawsuit & Investigation

Multi-Purpose Contact Lens Solution Linked to Eye Infections

Send to Friend | Bookmark | Live Chat

The popular multi-purpose contact lens solution ReNu with MoistureLoc has been linked to Fusarium Keratitis, Microbial Keratitis and fungal eye infections.

UPDATE: Our firm is also investigating a possible link between ReNu with MoistureLoc and the development of another form of corneal infections (keratitis), caused by acanthaoemeba -- Acanthamoeba Keratitis.

Keratitis Eye Infection Update

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a link between the AMO Complete® MoisturePlus™ Multi-Purpose Solution and 138 confirmed cases of Acanthamoeba Keratitis, another rare form of Keratitis, which is described as a painful eye infection that can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness.

The aforementioned investigation has led to a nationwide recall of the multi-purpose contact lens solution Complete® MoisturePlus™.

Our Investigation: Our firm is investigating a possible link between corneal eye infections (keratitis) and other multi-purpose contact lens solutions including but not limited to ReNu with MoistureLoc & ReNu MultiPlus (Bausch & Lomb), Opti-Free (Alcon), SOLO-care (Ciba Vision), and Complete® MoisturePlus™ Multi-Purpose Solution (Advanced Medical Optics).

If you or a loved one have developed a corneal infection (keratitis) while using any multi-purpose contact lens solution, you should contact us immediately. You may be entitled to compensation.

Talk to your doctor: Acanthamoeba Keratitis is often misdiagnosed, and/or confused with other forms of keratitis caused by bacteria, fungus or viruses such as herpes. If you have developed a corneal infection that has not responded well to treatment, you may want to ask your doctor to consider acanthamoeba.

FDA ReNu with MoistureLoc Fusarium Keratitis Warning

In a preliminary public health notification dated April 10, 2006, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning related to a number of reports in the United States of a rare but serious fungus infection of the eye in soft contact lens wearers. More specifically, the infection (fungal keratitis) caused by the Fusarium fungus, may cause vision loss requiring corneal transplants.

Both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating this situation and have been notified by Bausch and Lomb that they have agreed to stop the shipping of their popular ReNu MoistureLoc brand contact lens solution.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) Statement on Outbreak

The CDC stated that it received reports of 109 cases of suspected fungal keratitis in 17 different states. Twenty-eight of the 30 wore soft contact lenses. Preliminary information obtained by CDC from patient interviews indicates that 26 of these patients remembered which products they used, and that all 26 reported using a Bausch & Lomb ReNu brand contact lens solution in the month prior to the onset of infection. Patients reported using a variety of different ReNu types from multiple different product lots. Five of the patients reported using other solutions in addition to the ReNu product. Strain typing of the organism is ongoing.
