Accutane (generic: isotretinoin) has been linked to Inflammatory Bowel Disease also known as IBD.
If you or a loved one have taken Accutane and developed Accutane induced Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD, you should contact us immediately. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and we can help.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a group of inflammatory conditions of the large intestine and, in some cases, the small intestine. It is important to not confuse IBD with IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is less severe.
The primary forms of IBD are Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (UC).
The difference between Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis is the location and nature of the inflammatory changes opccuring in ones body. Crohn's can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus (skip lesions), although a majority of the cases start in the terminal ileum. Ulcerative Colitis, in contrast, is restricted to just the colon and the anus.
Pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. was hit Tuesday, May 29, 2007 with a $2.6 million jury verdict over Accutane, the first such verdict in a case blaming the severe acne treatment for inflammatory bowel disorder rather than other, more well-known side effects.
